Cat’s new GSH420, 520 orange peel grapples are faster, stronger, more durable | Dump Truck Company

Cat GHS orange peel grapple

GSH420 and GSH520 orange peel grapples for handling rocks on construction sites, as well as scrap material and recyclable waste.

The new orange peel grapples replace the GSH15B Series and charlotte nc dump truck company with Cat’s MH3022, MH3024 and MH3026 material handlers. Along with rocks, the grapples are designed for handling shredded scrap, such as long structural beams and car bodies, and waste at recycling and transfer stations. Cat says the grapples help waste-hauling operations meet challenges of increased environmental regulations, growing pressure to recycle a mix of materials and tight budgets.

The grapples are constructed of impact-resistant steel and come in four- or five-tine and in closed or semi-closed models. The tines are wear-resistant and have replaceable cast tips. Hydraulic hoses are routed within the tines to reduce hose wear.

The horizontal placement of impact-resistant steel cylinders enhances the grapples’ “strength, reliability and durability,” Cat says.

The grapples also feature a redesigned rotation system. The HR10 rotation group has a new swivel and is designed to reduce hydraulic restriction for faster cycle times and less fuel burn. The reduced restriction increases return-flow capacity by 160 percent and increases open-flow capacity by 30 percent, the dump trucks charlotte nc says.

Cat says all mounting brackets have a solid pin to keep the bracket in an upright position for easier installation, and a standard lifting eye on the bottom of the housing adds versatility to the grapples for such things as mounting a magnet. Other features include bushings with lubrication grooves and hardened pins in all pivot points.

Cat’s GSH420 and GSH520 orange peel grapples come in four- and five-tine versions.
