Last piece of old Tappan Zee Bridge in N.Y. removed | Dump Truck Company

The last section of the old Tappan Zee Bridge was removed on Thursday, May 16, APNews reports.

Work crews lowered the 600-foot long, 5,500-ton final piece of the bridge onto barges, which transported it to another location to be dismantled.

Workers have also been working to recover and salvage pieces of the bridge that fell into the Hudson River when explosives were used to demolish the bridge.

The new replacement bridge, which cost nearly $4 billion, opened to traffic in 2018 and was named the Gov. Mario M. Cuomo Bridge after the late governor of New York.
