Worker struck and killed on La. bridge | Dump Truck Company

A construction worker was struck and killed at mile marker 134 on the Atchafalaya Basin Bridge on Interstate 10 before 5 a.m.

on May 22, WBRZ reports.

According to the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD), the victim was identified as Andres Torres.

Police told the news agency that one of the bridge’s lanes had been closed overnight for repairs to the joints. Torres was attaching an arrow board traffic control sign to the rear of a dump trucks charlotte nc pickup truck in the westbound lanes of I-10 when a vehicle struck him and the sign.

Officials report that they do not believe impairment was factor, but the crash was still under investigation and no charges had been announced at press time.
