Wash. bridge collapses under overweight truck | Dump Truck Company

In September, a bridge over Woods Creek in Snohomish County, Washington, collapsed under the excess weight of a truck that was hauling septic tanks, sending the truck onto its side in the creek, KIRO 7 reports.

“The bridge is made out of steel trusses and then wood planks across the top,” Heather Chadwick, the Snohomish County Fire District 7 spokesperson, told the news agency. “The steel ended up contorting a little as the truck fell into the creek — it was about 10 feet or so from the creek, so it was about a 10-foot fall.”

“I’m not surprised,” Ken Zappia, who lives nearby, told the news agency. “I don’t know if I would have gone over it in a big old truck. It’s scary just going over in my car.”

The driver was not injured and the truck was intact, so the focus was to contain oil leaking out of the truck. Monday evening, Dick’s Towing was able to remove the truck from the creek.
