Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) crews have been monitoring the increased water flows on the Niobrara River, according to KNOP News. They are keeping a close eye on the stability of a shoo-fly, or temporary, bridge over the river on Highway 281 in the Northern part of the state.

NDOT’s Jeni Campana told the news agency that crews reinforced the temporary bridge with rip-rap to help stabilize it and that it was holding up well and was still open to traffic. The temporary bridge was built as an extension of the original bridge after the Spencer Dam washed out a road upstream and created a new channel back in March.

The new, permanent bridge is expected to be completed by November 2020.
