John Deere has launched updated models of its 204 and 304 compact wheel loaders saying the new machines are designed to increase productivity “in small spaces and over rough terrain.

The new 204L and 304L compact wheel loaders replace Deere’s 204K and 304K models and are aimed at contractors, landscapers and rental center operators, Deere says.

“We’re packing more productivity and efficiency into the wheel loader with the release of our L-Series models,” says Drew Miller, Deere product marketing manager for compact wheel loaders. “Perfect for year-round use, these workhorses were designed to take on tough jobs from warmer summer months to snowy winter conditions, while enabling the use of a versatile attachments portfolio when you need them.”

Both loaders are equipped with Tier 4 Final Yanmar engines, delivering 62 horsepower on the 204L  and 67 hp on the 304L. Hydrostatic transmissions help keep the noise down while providing ample power.

The 204L’s machine height is adjustable to less than 8 feet for jobs when there are overhead space constraints.

An optional ride control feature makes the loaders ride smoother over bumpy terrain and reduces material spillage. Front and rear differential locks automatically activate to increase traction in poor conditions.

Operators can also choose between having an enclosed cab or, for those needing 360 degrees of attachment visibility, an open station. Those who opt for the enclosed cab will get an improved interior cooling system.

Maintenance is also reduced with the L-Series loaders. Engine oil/filter, final drives oil and hydraulic oil all have extended service intervals over the K-Series models. Maintenance points are ground-level accessible and hydraulically released, and self-adjusting park and service brakes provide safer machine upkeep.

The wheel loaders can use more than 100 of John Deere’s Worksite Pro attachments. The auxiliary hydraulic control for attachments has been moved to the primary joystick in response customer and dealer feedback.

An optional LED lighting package is also available to increase productivity in low light conditions.
