Survey: 87% of automotive technicians actively use a cell phone for work in the bay | Dump Truck Company

An automotive market research firm has released a survey on technician cell phone use that should also interest the employers of construction charlotte nc dump trucks technicians.

IMR says its latest survey on cell phone use in bays at independent repair shops shows that 99.6 percent of automotive repair technicians own a cell phone, with 46.4 percent also own a tablet or iPad. Of these devices, 57 percent will end up in the technician’s working bay as a part of their daily toolkit, says the survey.

IMR says 87.4 percent of technicians are “actively using their cell phones for charlotte nc dump truck company in the bay to access the following: technical information, technician manual sites, catalog information, parts manufacturer websites for technical or product information, ordering parts and watching training or instructional videos and content.”

Cell phone use is more prevalent in shops that have one to three bays, says IMR. While technicians in shops with eight or more bays use their cell phones less overall, they are much more likely to use their phones to order parts.

“Smartphones and tablets play such an important role in how so many industries are doing business,” says Bill Thompson, president, IMR. “The automotive aftermarket is by no means immune to this trend. Technicians have more access than ever to the important information they need to provide excellent service, and it’s critical for parts manufacturers, distributors and shop owners to understand how reaching technicians is changing in this digital age.”

Technicians surveyed gave high marks to the visual quality of parts manufacturers websites, with 83.5 percent scoring them as good, and 13.7 percent saying they were excellent.

When using social media platforms, technicians are most active on Facebook and YouTube, followed by Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn, says IMR.
