Residents in Clay County, Florida, have got their bridge back after Hurricane Irma damaged it.

The bridge on County Road 218 southwest of Jacksonville was closed September 19 when inspection divers found safety problems, according to The Florida Times-Union.

The newspaper reports that the repaired bridge will reopen December 15, ahead of the originally scheduled open date of December 23.

While the two-lane bridge over Black Creek was closed, drivers had to detour to Florida 16 or other routes. “We recognize that this has been a significant inconvenience and are delighted to give Clay County residents an early Christmas present as we reopen this major thoroughfare in our county,” county commission chairman Gavin Rollins told the Times-Union.
