Eighty-three construction workers who suffered damage to their homes from Hurricane Harvey got a $2,350 surprise.

Each received a check in that amount from AGC Charities, the philanthropic arm of the Associated General Contractors of America.

AGC Charities began raising money nationwide after Harvey’s winds and floods devastated Texas. It left many construction workers with uninsured damages.

In all, the organization raised $195,000 to disburse among affected workers. All of the workers are employees of firms that are AGC members.

AGC President Art Daniel presented the checks in January during visits to construction firms and at the annual dinner of AGC of Southeast Texas in Beaumont.

“Contractors may do hard work, but they have soft hearts, especially when it comes to helping some of their own,” said Daniel, who is also president and COO of Cedar Hills, Texas-based AR Daniel Construction. “These checks won’t make everything right, but they will help these construction professionals get their lives back on track.”

AGC of Houston was the largest single donor, providing $50,000 for victims of Hurricane Harvey as well as another $50,000 for victims in Puerto Rico of Hurricane Maria, AGC said. Other significant donors include the John & Alice Powers Foundation, the Oregon-Columbia Chapter of AGC and the AGC of Washington State.

AGC Charities was created 10 years ago to enable charlotte nc excavation company to come together to help their communities. It also honors construction companies for their charitable charlotte nc dump truck company and arranges the annual Operation Opening Doors charitable construction project.
