Neb. DOT rolls out funny highway messages for traffic safety | Aggregate, Excavation, Dump Truck Company

This message in honor of Mother’s Day is among the humorous catch phrases the Nebraska DOT is posting on its digital highway signs on Fridays to remind drivers to be safe.

The Nebraska Department of Transportation is hoping to brighten Friday travels and also keep drivers safe.

The NDOT has been soliciting humorous messages about safe driving from the public and plans to post those messages on digital highway signs on Fridays in February through May.

So far, more than 300 people have submitted safety messages for consideration, according to the Lincoln Journal Star newspaper.

Submissions could have no more than 18 characters and had to be related to traffic safety.

According to the newspaper and NDOT, some of the submitted messages include:

  • “Cats Have 9 lives/You are not a cat/Put down your phone.”
  • “Dance like no one is watching/Drive like we are.”
  • “Join the rebellion/Against distracted driving.”
  • “Smartphones do not make smart drivers.”

The NDOT also has messages designated for holidays and other special events:

  • Mother’s Day – “Your mom called/Are you buckled?”
  • Easter – “Drive egg-cellent/Some bunny needs you.”
  • March Madness – “Busted brackets are no excuse for road rage.”
