Columbus Ohio Dump Truck Company Brief:

  • There were at least seven hospital or health center projects in June, valued at $300 million or more, that either completed construction or made progress in their planning stages, according to Becker's Hospital Review.
  • Six of the seven are in the planning stages, and those are the $1 billion program of capital improvements made by Charlotte, North Carolina, system Atrium Health; the $1.5 billion Children's Healthcare of Atlanta campus in Brookhaven, Georgia, which recently filed a letter of intent with the state to secure a certificate of need; an $800 million Essentia Health campus in Duluth, Minnesota; a $534 million Beth Israel inpatient facility in Boston; a $500 million, three-year plan to expand TriStar Health facilities in Tennessee and a $30 million expansion of Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Fort Worth, the biggest construction project in Texas Health Resources history.
  • One of the projects Becker's included on its list is under construction, and that is Indiana University Health's $400 million, 735,000-square-foot Regional Academic Health Center. The general contractor for the project is F.A. Wilhelm Construction Co., which is based in Indianapolis.

Dump Trucks Columbus OH Insight:

Hospital projects today often consist of more than just beds, surgeries and an emergency room. Many are healthcare campuses with all of those things plus medical offices, green space and specialty services.

The city of Carmel, Indiana, is pushing for details on a $1 billion hospital complex project that is more mystery right now than it is an official plan. St. Vincent Health and Ambrose Property Group want to rezone about 40 acres and reportedly build several buildings and parking garages, but that's it for details. That could change, however, as Carmel Mayor Jim Brainard said the chance of St. Vincent and Ambrose being approved for a rezoning without development details is zero.

Although Children's Healthcare of Atlanta is still in the planning stage for most of its North Druid Hills Campus, which will feature a two-tower, 446-bed hospital that will replace a downtown Atlanta facility, there is construction underway on the 260,000-square-foot Advanced Center for Pediatrics. The project will also include 20 acres of green space with pedestrian walkways and $40 million of infrastructure improvements that will allow for better access to the campus. According to Curbed Atlanta, the complex will be the most expensive healthcare construction initiative in state history.
