Kennedy International Airport's $13 billion redevelopment.
  • The 14-acre, mixed-use JFK Central will serve as the commercial and recreational epicenter for airport visitors, travelers and employees. Using airports around the world as models, the Port Authority wants to hear ideas from firms with expertise in this type of development, which could include office space, event areas, pop-up stores and food trucks, along with retail and dining space. The hub will be built on top of the new ground transportation center.
  • Feedback received during the RFI process, which is due to the Port Authority by Sept. 6, will be used to develop a future Request for Proposals (RFP). The Port Authority plans on issuing a Request for Qualifications at the end of this year and an RFP in the second quarter of 2020.

Work will add as many as 12 new gates able to accommodate larger planes at one terminal, as well as an expansion of JetBlue’s operations into up to two additional terminals.

And in New Jersey at Newark Liberty International Airport, crews are replacing that facility's Terminal A with a 1 million-square-foot Terminal One, which will offer 33 gates, a multilevel parking garage and access to local and regional transportation, the North Jersey Record reported. The $2.7 billion project is scheduled for completion in 2022.
