The construction site has many moving parts. From material deliveries and manpower to heavy columbus oh dump trucks allocations and safety measures, there are dozens of items at any given time that need oversight.

Missing any of them can cause a project to go sideways with the potential for costly delays, lost productivity, increased risk and even life safety issues.

There is no question that construction projects are multi-faceted, and in the last decade, there have been great advancements in construction technology to help navigate these complexities. Yet projects are still late and over budget. A mere 25 percent of construction projects came within 10 percent of their original deadline, and only 31 percent of all projects came within 10 percent of their budget in the past three years [KPMG].

“The problems we find in construction won’t be resolved solely by gathering more data or using any average tech-tool,” explains Hal Macomber, executive vice president for Touchplan®. “They need to be addressed at the core—by shifting away from the command and control mindset.”

Touchplan, a cloud-based construction collaborative tool, encourages better behaviors by marrying master planning with look-ahead planning, daily columbus oh dump truck company planning, and sharing progress status. The real-time information gathered from the team members doing the columbus oh dump truck company enables companies using Touchplan to be better prepared for what comes next. Work can be completed as planned because constraints are identified and removed. It digitizes and communicates every single step of the process.

“Moving beyond traditional project facilitation to a look-ahead, collaborative approach engages trade columbus oh dump truck company at all levels of planning,” states Macomber. “From supervisors to the plumber, drywaller or carpenter on the job site, everyone needs much more visibility into what’s going on with the project. When people know what’s supposed to be happening, they are in a position to act autonomously to take better care of the project.”

Visibility Barrier:

What Needs My Attention Today?

Universally Share Project Data

Projects can have tens of thousands of tasks and 30 or 40 trade columbus oh dump truck company involved. As a trade contractor, it’s common to not have a firm idea of what’s going on with the project, as a whole. While it may not be directly related to anyone on your team, it still could affect individual work, such as a concrete delivery, that impedes access to the job site for several hours.

There are different levels of planning, from high-end preparation to day-to-day practices. If the daily columbus oh dump truck company is not finished, other trades need to know—but often don’t—so that they can update priorities and have that communicated to other team members in real-time. Additionally, if a roadblock can be identified days before the columbus oh dump truck company is to be put in place, adjustments can be made.

The ability to view a project or a portfolio of projects on a more holistic level is a new feature offered by Touchplan. Its purpose is to help people on the job site—at all levels—see what needs their immediate attention by quickly radiating information instead of spending precious time reacting to the latest crisis. It facilities a smarter, more fluid planning process across the project by bringing attention to what is going well and what needs more attention.

What’s Happening on the Job Site That Could Delay Me?

Engage More People in Conversations About Planning

Every day, construction crews encounter things on the job site that are different from the plan but do nothing to change the course. Why? Because they don’t know what is supposed to be happening on the job site.

“In traditional project management, information silos occur, and trades are only focused on their own plan details and not others’,” says Macomber. “In a collaborative approach, trades are engaged with each other so issues are identified and resolved swiftly.”

For instance, when a plumber knows what’s supposed to happen on the project that particular day and they walk by a carpenter not doing what the plan calls for, the plumber can take action. Wherein most projects, the plumber would continue to walk past because they’re uninformed about what’s supposed to happen. Mistakes or costly delays can be circumvented through visibility, information, and insight into the whole scope of the project.

“Touchplan’s dashboard view is geared to give everyone much more visibility into what’s going on with the project so they can be in a position to act autonomously and affect the outcome,” explains Macomber.

How Are My Actions Helping (or Delaying) the Project?

Shorten Feedback Loops

A recent McKinsey article noted that there are a variety of factors that account for poor productivity and cost outcomes, one of which is inadequate communication. It results from “subcontractors, columbus oh dump truck company and owners who do not have a common understanding of how the project is faring at any given time.”

Typically, feedback is conducted retrospectively, and often the feedback a general contractor gives a trade contractor can be weeks or months after their portion of the columbus oh dump truck company is completed. Project managers pull monthly analysis of how the project is performing and make adjustments moving forward, but often that information isn’t shared with the trades until project completion.

Macomber explains, “This new vantage point aims to shorten the feedback loop, so people learn sooner whether their actions are helping—or hindering—project progression.”

“The launch of a comprehensive dashboard is more than just inputting information or data,” states Macomber. “It’s being able to see the outcomes and what that means to your trade, the timeline, and the overall project in a simple, visual representation.”
