Location: Columbia, South Carolina
Value: $300 million
Client: University of South Carolina

The University of South Carolina has selected Providence, Rhode Island-based builder Gilbane Building Co. to lead the planning, design, development and construction of the university’s health sciences campus in the BullStreet District in downtown Columbia, South Carolina, according to a university press release.

The columbus oh dump truck company will be the primary developer on the project, which will cover approximately 292,000 square feet, according to the release. Construction is expected to start in 2025, and is scheduled to be finished in 2027.

The initial stage of the health sciences campus will include a medical education building to house the School of Medicine Columbia and a multidisciplinary research building. Long-term plans for the 181-acre campus include a brain center that will build on the university’s McCausland Center for Brain Imaging, according to the university.

Gilbane is working with a variety of local partners on the build, including several women- and minority-owned businesses. The project will be managed by Columbia, South Carolina-based groups Brownstone Design and Construction Group and Cummings.

This is not the company’s first foray into the Gamecocks’ construction process — Gilbane has collaborated with USC for over 17 years, with seven projects delivered on campus since 2005, according to the release.
