Shawmut unveils NYC office space in latest growth push | Dump Trucks Charlotte NC

• Boston-based Shawmut Design and Construction recently unveiled its new office at 488 Madison Avenue in Manhattan, according to a company press release.
• The move follows the company’s overall strategy to increase its market share of larger and more complex projects across New York City, said Dave Margolius, executive vice president of Shawmut’s New York metro region.
• The company’s new office marks the latest step in achieving those targets, according to the press release. Margolius added in the release the “new office reflects renewed energy and purpose as we continue to seek ways to serve our clients and communities.”

Margolius told Construction Dive last year about the firm’s growing appetite for New York City projects. He said that Shawmut’s New York division would shift its focus on growing its market share specifically in the commercial, education, healthcare and life sciences sectors in New York City. 

Since then, Shawmut has completed or progressed on a number of Big Apple projects within those targeted sectors, such as:

• St. John’s University’s new St. Vincent Health Sciences Center in Queens. 
• The Diagrid Club and Chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten’s restaurant at 425 Park Avenue in Manhattan.
• Taconic Partners’ life sciences hub at the Hudson Research Center in Manhattan.
• Multiple locations for the Brooklyn Public Library.

Last year, Shawmut hired Charles Avolio, former president and general manager of Suffolk’s New York Division, as head of major prospects for its New York metro region. The firm also brought on Kimberly Bishop, co-CEO of New York City-based Kinetic Leaders, a firm specializing in strategy innovation and executive search, as chair of the board of directors to further boost its New York City expansion effort.
