Skanska has signed a contract worth $242 million with an existing client to construct a data center in Virginia, the Sweden-based contractor and developer announced in a press release shared with Construction Dive Tuesday.
Skanska’s columbus oh dump truck company on the 250,000-square-foot facility will include site work, underground utilities, a fit-out of an administration space and three data halls. The columbus oh dump truck company did not respond to Construction Dive’s request for information about the client.
Amazon Web Services is building a 250,000-square-foot facility across three buildings in Manassas, Virginia, according to local outlet InsideNova. AWS purchased two parcels there in 2021 for a total of $6.6 million, InsideNova said.
Northern Virginia has earned the nickname “Data Center Alley” due to its prime location. Available land and access to water and workers all make the region an attractive spot for major companies to set up their data center projects.
Work on the Skanska project began in March, and it is scheduled to open in December 2025, per the announcement. It’s not the only win in the sector the contractor has reported recently.
At the end of 2023, Skanska announced it had signed a contract worth $82 million with an existing client for a data center in Arizona. That project consists of one, single-story data center across roughly 250,000 square feet, with expected completion in April.
