Jacobs adds $479M job to collaboration with Atkinson | Dump Trucks Charlotte NC

A significant transportation upgrade is set to boost regional connectivity in Washington state, aiming to connect key areas and improve travel efficiency.

The Washington State DOT selected Jacobs Solutions as lead designer for the SR 509 Stage 2 completion project, according to a news release.

The initiative, part of the overall $2.68 billion Puget Sound Gateway Program, aims to enhance the transportation network between I-5 and SR 509. The project will create essential links from the Port of Seattle to key manufacturing and distribution centers in the Kent Valley, finishing near Sea-Tac Airport.

Jacobs will join the design-build team, led by Renton, Washington-based contractor Guy F. Atkinson Construction, according to the release. The project involves the construction of five new bridges, one bridge modification, stormwater facilities and infrastructure to support walking, cycling and other physical modes of travel.

The value of the contract is $479 million, the Washington State DOT confirmed with Construction Dive.

“This project continues our strong collaboration with Atkinson in delivering best-in-class solutions to the Washington State DOT, all while creating vital transportation improvements that connect communities,” said Katus Watson, Jacobs senior vice president. “Since 2005, the Jacobs-Atkinson design-build team has delivered roadway improvements that make travel smarter, safer and more connected.”

The Jacobs and Atkins partnership boasts a 19-year history of collaboration within Washington, providing technical, delivery and risk management support across numerous projects in the state. The team has already worked together during several previous phases of the Puget Sound Gateway Program, according to the news release.
